Nothing beats a healthy smile. We know the basics, but sometimes it’s good to get a refresher. Here are some simple things to remember when caring for your teeth and gums.
ADA Seal: Much more than a logo, this seal can be found on oral health products–toothbrushes, toothpastes, mouthwash, bleach trays, even some chewing gums. To earn the seal, that product must pass thorough testing of its safety and effectiveness. The seal cannot be purchased, it must be earned. This ensures you get a quality product. Keep this in mind as you purchase dental care products.
Brush: Brush your teeth twice a day, for two minutes each time. Brush with gentle pressure, using fluoride toothpaste. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and short, tooth-wide strokes. Brush every tooth, every surface. This includes the inside, outside, and chewing surfaces.
Floss: Floss your teeth once a day, every day. This should take 2-3 minutes per day. Use about 18 inches of ADA-approved dental floss;use it to gently remove plaque and food particles from between teeth using a sawing motion. If using conventional floss is difficult for you, talk to Dr. Obiora E. Nkwonta about other interdental cleaners that are approved for that purpose.
Visit Your Dentist: Visiting your dentist regularly will help make sure that any problems are caught early, and that your teeth stay clean. If you are in the Seattle, Washington area, be sure to call Lake City Way Dental Center at 206.363.1828 to schedule your appointment today! Dr. Obiora E. Nkwonta is happy to help keep your smile happy.
