What are pulp caps?
Pulp caps are an endodontic treatment used to protect exposed dental pulp and tooth nerves. Made from materials such as calcium hydroxide, pulp caps are used to relieve pain and strengthen a dental filling and to prevent shallow decay from seriously infecting your dental pulp. The two types of pulp caps available at Lake City Way Dental Center are direct and indirect pulp caps. Dr. Obiora E. Nkwonta, our knowledgeable dentist, will help determine what is best for your smile after a thorough consultation and examination. Our goal is to help you feel confident in your dental health choices.

How are pulp caps applied?
Indirect pulp caps are placed on a small layer of dentin inside of your tooth, whereas direct pulp caps are applied directly to exposed dental pulp. Both are generally sealed with a dental filling or dental restoration. Another main difference between the two is that indirect pulp caps are designed to be temporary and removed once your dentin has regrown. No matter which type you need, we are gentle and strive to help you feel as comfortable as possible when you receive any form of pulp cap treatment.
