What is sinus augmentation?
Many of our patients who are interested in dental implants face complications when it comes to their bone tissue. Dental implants require a strong jawbone, and tooth loss is often connected to bone loss or weak bone. Sinus augmentation is a surgical treatment that extends your jawbone in the back of your mouth where your pre-molars and molars are located. Sinus augmentation is more commonly called a sinus lift. Along with bone loss, the close spacing of your sinuses is the next most common reason your jawbone needs to be extended. Bone replacement grafts are similar and can be used anywhere in your jaw where you have experienced bone loss.

How is a sinus lift completed?
During a sinus lift, we will gently raise the gum tissue and graft bone into the back of your dental arches. Your gums are then closed and allowed to heal before beginning dental implants or other stages of treatment. Bone replacement grafts follow the same procedures, yet are done anywhere you need bone tissue. Dr. Obiora E. Nkwonta, our caring dentist, will walk with you through each step of the process and answer any questions you may have.
